     Jean Harris Swartz, 86, formerly of Mifflintown, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Green Ridge Village in Newville.

     Born December 24, 1928, in Walnut, she was the daughter of the late Lucien and Lela (Ernest) Harris. Her husband of 53 years, Oscar H. "Bo" Swartz, whom she married October 15, 1948, died on March 17, 2001.

     She is survived by her nieces, Carole Miller and her husband, Richard, of Carlisle and Kaye Wishard and her husband, Bill, of Mechanicsburg.

     She was preceded in death by her only brother, Robert H. Harris.

     Jean graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1947. Upon graduation, she began working as a medical assistant to Dr. Eugene Sausser in Mifflintown. She continued in this career until his retirement and then began working for The Family Practice Center in Mifflintown. She finished her working career at Fenner Trucking. After retiring at age 80, she volunteered at Abundant Blessings.

     She was a member of the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in Academia.

     She enjoyed reading and loved animals, especially horses and dogs. She had a champion French Bulldog which she showed at the Westminster Dog Show in New York City.

     She and her husband enjoyed traveling across the United States and Europe. In their younger years, they took many trips to New York State to snowmobile.

     Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. John C. Park officiating. Interment will be in the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery, Academia.

     Although the casket will be closed, there will be a visitation from 12:30 until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.
